Two members of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) alliance lost their lives in an attack attributed to ISIS, according to statements from the pro-Iranian PMF and an Iraqi security source on Sunday.

The PMF reported that the two fighters succumbed to injuries sustained while resisting an ISIS attack in Salaheddin province, located to the north of Baghdad. The Hashed, an official PMF statement, conveyed this information through the INA news agency.

Confirming the death toll, an anonymous security source informed AFP that the ISIS attack targeted a military post on Saturday night in the al-Zarka area of the province's north.

The Popular Mobilization Forces, a coalition primarily composed of pro-Iranian former paramilitary units now integrated into the Iraqi armed forces, has played a significant role in combating ISIS.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the assault in a statement disseminated through its Telegram channels, asserting that two PMF members were killed, and three others sustained injuries.
